Ryan Bingham at Extra Innings Festival
Ryan Bingham is not your typical country singer. He doesn’t wear a cowboy hat, he doesn’t sing about trucks and beer, and he doesn’t shy away from political and social issues. He is, however, one of the most authentic and honest voices in Americana music today.
Bingham grew up in a nomadic lifestyle, moving across Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana with his family. He learned to play guitar and harmonica at a young age, and started writing songs as a way of coping with his troubled childhood. He worked as a rodeo rider, a ranch hand, and a railroad worker before pursuing music full-time.
His debut album, Mescalito, was released in 2007 and introduced his gritty, raspy vocals and his blend of country, rock, folk and blues. He gained more recognition when he won an Oscar and a Grammy for his song “The Weary Kind”, which was featured in the film Crazy Heart. Since then, he has released six more albums, each one showcasing his growth as a songwriter and his willingness to experiment with different sounds and genres.
Bingham’s latest album, American Love Song, is a reflection of his personal journey and his observations of the current state of the nation. He tackles topics such as immigration, racism, addiction, love and loss with compassion and courage. He also pays tribute to his musical influences, such as Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones. He has had a recurring role on the hit TV series Yellowstone.
Ryan Bingham is a singer who doesn’t fit into any neat category. He is a storyteller who speaks from the heart and sings from the soul. He is a rebel who challenges the status quo and a troubadour who celebrates the beauty and diversity of America.
