Hardy at Faster Horses Festival: Hardly a Show Stopper
Michael Wilson Hardy, known professionally as HARDY, is a force to be reckoned with in the country rock music scene. Born on September 13, 1990, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, HARDY has carved out a niche for himself as a singer-songwriter with a penchant for blending genres and defying expectations. His journey in music began earnestly after graduating with a degree in songwriting from Middle Tennessee State University, leading him to Nashville, where his career took off.
HARDY’s discography is a testament to his versatility and talent, with hit songs like “Give Heaven Some Hell,” “One Beer,” and “Wait in the Truck” showcasing his ability to craft narratives that resonate with fans across the US and Canada. His latest album, “The Mockingbird & The Crow,” topped the country music charts in early 2023, solidifying his place in the industry.
At the Faster Horses Festival in Michigan, I expected HARDY’s performance to be nothing short of electrifying. The festival, known for its star-studded lineup, saw HARDY take the stage with a presence that commanded attention, complete with pyrotechnics, rolling smoke, and bright strobe lights that captivated the audience.
What I saw, however, was the most disappointing show of the festival. People were leaving early, and two thirds of the way through, I joined them. What I saw was a man in a football jersey, running back and forth across the stage like a five year old boy in a Batman costume, trying to rally the crowd.
HARDY’s performance at the Faster Horses Festival was a standout moment, but not in a good way, and fell short of his hyped status as a country rock powerhouse.
