Beyonce & The Dixie Chicks Surprise Performance
Beyonce & The Dixie Chicks Surprise Performance at the 50th Annual C.M.A. Awards
Nothing says Nashville like… Beyonce???
Everybody is goin’ for that “Nashville Sound.”
Beyonce’s single, “Daddy Lessons” caused quite a stir in Nashville when it dropped along with Lemonade in April. Music fans slammed the pop star for daring to cross genres and country music fans denied the song was, in fact, a country song, while several country-music stars, like the Dixie Chicks came out in support of Beyoncé.
CMT critic Alison Bonaguro wrote, “Sure, Beyoncé’s new album has a song with some yee-haws, a little harmonica and mentions of classic vinyl, rifles and whiskey. But all of the sudden, everyone’s acting like she’s moved to Nashville and announced that she’s country now. Just because of this song ‘Daddy Lessons.’”
Neither Beyoncé nor the Dixie Chicks were on the C.M.A.’s official lists of performers or presenters this year, so it was a surprise when word leaked that Bey and the Chicks were performing. Once news broke that Queen Bey would be performing at the 50th annual CMA Awards on Wednesday night from Nashville, Tennessee, the Beyhive was naturally ecstatic but many others were outraged by the announcement. Some people are only watching the CMAs for Beyoncé. With the awards show on ABC fighting for ratings against Game 7 of the World Series (breaking: Cubs Win — Ending losing streak since 1908), they need all the viewers they can get.
While the pairing might seem strange to country music fans, the Dixie Chicks are huge fans of Beyoncé and performed “Daddy Lessons” on their recent tour. Welcome, Beyoncé,” host Brad Paisley wrote on Twitter right before the show.
