Florence + The Machine ACL 2015
Florence and the Machine was the perfect act to wrap up ACL and showed their dedication to their fans by playing a long set. Florence Welch, the leader of the machine, is not a conventional singer or entertainer by any means. Her long, lean frame vibrates with power and passion, her flowing mane of red hair attracts attention even off stage, and the barefoot, whirling dervish she is on stage reminds a person of a Celtic Goddess.. Her voice is big, resonant, bright and crystal clear while The Machine (an 11-piece ensemble at ACL) enhances and carries her every note. She entertains with her beautiful voice, wildly expressive dance moves, the lyrics she shares from her heart, and the emotions she wears on her sleeve.
Florence and the Machine opened the set with “What the Water Gave Me,” the first song from their second studio album, Ceremonials and led into “Ship Wreck,” the second single from their latest release, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful.” Iridescent and sparkling from the stage, Florence knows the profound affect her lyrics have on her listeners. She was able to bring a feeling of intimacy and camaraderie to a crowd of thousands at ACL. She asked for nonstop participation from the adoring audience and reciprocated with genuine affection and enthusiasm for her fans. Florence and the Machine ended the show with “What Kind of Man” and “Drumming Song” leaving fans exhausted and satisfied with a spellbinding performance. Florence and the Machine gets an A+ and a “Let’s Go Again!” from this reviewer.
